Tourism Department Warns Against Sale of Overnight Stay Packages at Everest Base Camp
Kathmandu, April 30: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has warned of legal action against those promoting or selling overnight stay packages at Sagarmatha Base Camp.
Issuing a notice on Wednesday, Section Officer Prakash Pokharel said the department’s serious attention had been drawn after receiving complaints about advertisements offering overnight stay packages at the base camp.
According to the Department, existing regulations prohibit individuals other than expedition team members, expedition leaders, mountain guides, high-altitude workers, base camp staff and local workers from staying at Everest Base Camp.
The Department has urged all concerned to carry out activities in accordance with the legal provisions outlined in the Mountaineering Regulations.
It also warned that action would be taken under existing laws against anyone found involved in activities that violate the regulations.
