Nepali Film Selected for Cannes Film Festival
Kathmandu, April 23: Nepali feature film Elephants in the Fog (Tiniharu) has been selected for the Un Certain Regard section at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, marking the first time a Nepali film has entered this category.
Directed by Abinash Bikram Shah, the film will compete for awards including the Un Certain Regard Prize, Best Director, and the Jury Prize. The section is considered the second most prestigious at Cannes after the main competition.
The film tells the story of a family living in a settlement affected by elephant attacks, focusing on a mother-daughter relationship. It also represents sexual and minority communities, with actors from those communities in lead roles.
The film is a co-production between Nepali companies Underground Talkies Nepal and Jayanthi Creations, with partners from France, Germany, Brazil, and Norway.
This year’s festival will be held from May 12 to 23.
