Over 125,000 Foreign Visitors Registered in Immigration Tracking System
Kathmandu, May 13: The Department of Immigration (DoI) has reported that records of around 125,000 foreign travellers have been collected through the Foreign Nationals Management Information System (FNMIS) within five months of its implementation.
During a discussion programme held in Kathmandu on Monday, the department reviewed the progress of the system, which was introduced to improve the management and monitoring of foreign nationals in Nepal.
According to the department, a total of 1,543 service providers, including hotels, travel agencies, domestic airlines and other businesses serving foreign nationals, have been integrated into the system so far. Among them, 94 hotels have been affiliated with the platform.
The FNMIS came into operation in hotels in Kathmandu from January 1, 2026, and was later expanded to all service providers dealing with foreign nationals from March 1.
Department spokesperson Tikaram Dhakal said the system was introduced to strengthen the security of foreign nationals, support national security, monitor the activities of foreign visitors and help control crime. He added that the system would also help project Nepal as a safe destination for tourists.
Representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal Tourism Board, Department of Tourism, Department of Inland Revenue, Hotel Association Nepal, Federation of Hotel Entrepreneurs and Tourist Police participated in the discussion programme.
Officials also discussed integrating the system with services provided by the Inland Revenue Department and the Department of Tourism. Discussions are also underway to place a list of hotels enrolled in the system at Nepal’s entry points so foreign visitors can select hotels during the visa application process.
