Nepal’s Tiger Track Ecolodge Honoured at Architizer A+ Awards 2026
Kathmandu, June 12: Tiger Track Ecolodge in Bardiya has won the Architizer A+ Awards 2026, one of the world’s leading architecture awards, earning the “Popular Choice Winner” title in the Sustainable Hospitality Building category.
The eco-lodge has gained international recognition for combining Tharu indigenous architecture, environmental sustainability and community-based tourism.
Designed by Building Bureau, a non-profit organization, the lodge is located near the Khata Corridor, which links Bardiya National Park in Nepal with India’s Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary. The project uses rammed earth walls, reclaimed terracotta roof tiles and earthquake-resistant structures to minimize environmental impact.
Inspired by traditional Tharu architecture, the lodge was developed as a model for sustainable tourism while supporting local communities and wildlife conservation.
The initiative was led by Hemanta Acharya, who sought to promote coexistence between local communities and wildlife following personal experiences with human-wildlife conflict.
In addition to tourism services, the ecolodge operates as a social enterprise. Part of its revenue supports women affected by wildlife attacks through the Single Women Wildlife Victim Fund and contributes to Community-Based Anti-Poaching Units working in the region.
Tourism and conservation experts have described the project as a successful example of combining cultural preservation, environmental protection and community empowerment.
The international award is expected to draw greater attention to Bardiya as a sustainable tourism destination and highlight Nepal’s growing role in eco-tourism and green architecture.
