Nepal Hosts First Workshop on Flight Data Monitoring for Aviation Safety
Kathmandu, May 5: Nepal has taken a step forward in aviation safety by hosting its first-ever workshop on Flight Data Monitoring (FDM). The programme was held at Pulchowk Campus on April 30.
The workshop was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation with participation from government officials, aviation experts and academics.
Flight Data Monitoring is a system that analyses recorded flight data to identify risks, detect irregularities and improve safety standards. Officials said the use of such systems will help move from reactive to preventive approaches in aviation safety.
Speaking at the event, Secretary Mukunda Prasad Niraula highlighted the government’s commitment to adopting international safety standards and modern, data-driven practices in Nepal’s aviation sector.
Technical sessions were led by aviation expert Sudip Bhattarai, who explained how FDM systems work and how they can be implemented effectively.
Representatives from Himalaya Airlines also presented a case study, showing how flight data is used in real operations to monitor trends, identify hazards and improve safety.
Officials said a roadmap has been prepared for the gradual implementation of FDM systems across Nepal’s aviation sector, aiming to strengthen safety and align with global standards.
