Nepal and Thailand Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Trade and Tourism
Kathmandu, May 15: Nepal’s Ambassador to Thailand Dhan Bahadur Oli held a meeting on Thursday with Urasa Mongkolnavin to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Nepal and Thailand.
According to a statement issued by the Embassy of Nepal in Thailand, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, culture, agriculture and education.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation status of eight Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed between Nepal and Thailand last year. Both sides stressed the need for effective implementation of the agreements.
During the discussion, the officials highlighted the importance of facilitating visa procedures and improving tourism-related services on a reciprocal basis. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in exchanging intelligence and information to combat human trafficking, money laundering and cybercrime.
The two sides further discussed the possibility of concluding proposed bilateral agreements related to agricultural cooperation and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
According to the embassy, discussions were also held on convening the next meeting of the Nepal-Thailand Joint Consultative Mechanism in Nepal on a mutually convenient date.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation at regional and multilateral forums, including extending support for each other’s candidatures in international organisations.
The meeting also focused on increasing complementarities in bilateral trade, strengthening value chains between Nepali and Thai products and promoting added value through the integration of Himalayan and ocean-based goods and services.
