Nepal Generates Rs 1.26 Billion from Spring Mountaineering Season
Kathmandu, June 10: Nepal’s spring mountaineering season has concluded with 1,195 domestic and foreign climbers obtaining permits to scale 31 peaks, including Mt Everest.
According to the Department of Tourism, 495 climbers from 56 countries secured permits for Mt Everest. Of them, 390 were men and 105 were women, including 44 Nepali climbers.
More than 1,000 guides and support staff also reached the summit during the season.
China had the highest number of Everest permit holders with 159 climbers, followed by the United States (152), India (101), Germany (75), the United Kingdom (74) and Russia (70).
During the season, Nepali climber Kami Rita Sherpa extended his own world record by summiting Everest for the 32nd time. Among women climbers, Lhakpa Sherpa set a new record with her 11th ascent of the mountain.
The government collected Rs 1.26 billion in mountaineering royalties during the spring season, with Everest contributing the largest share of the revenue.
