Nepal Launches Online System for Foreign Vehicles Entering via Land Routes
Kathmandu, May 6: The government has introduced an online service to facilitate tourists entering Nepal by land using vehicles.
The Department of Customs Nepal, under the Ministry of Finance, has developed the system that allows foreign vehicles to fill out required forms and pay fees online before entering the country.
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle inaugurated the service at a programme on May 5. With the new system, tourists from India and other countries can now complete vehicle permit procedures online.
Previously, travellers had to obtain temporary permits physically at customs checkpoints and revisit them to extend travel duration or pay fines. The new system removes this requirement, making travel more convenient.
Under the system, users can access the customs department’s website, fill in vehicle details under the “TIV” section, and receive a QR code after submission. After paying the required fee, vehicles are allowed to enter Nepal.
Director General Shyam Prasad Bhandari said the permit process for foreign vehicles has now been fully digital.
Officials said the service will mainly benefit tourists from India and Bangladesh, while it is also available for those entering through northern borders if required.
